Product construction and operation

An electro-pneumatic positioner compares a control command with mechanical position feedback and adjusts the air delivered to the actuator. It is part of a modulating control package, and must be matched to the actuator action and travel arrangement.

Configuration features

• Converts a specified electrical command into controlled pneumatic output.
• Mechanical feedback connects actuator movement to the positioner.
• Rotary and linear applications require the correct feedback and mounting kit.

Selection and installation details

Installing a positioner does not make every on-off valve assembly suitable for frequent modulation. Confirm the valve flow characteristic, actuator duty, friction and required positioning response. Specify single- or double-acting operation and the behavior required on command or air loss. Air quality, tubing volume and feedback linkage condition affect performance, so they should be included in the control-package review.

Check both mechanical and control compatibility before installation. A matching exterior or similar part description does not confirm interchangeable ratings, porting or wiring.
