Product construction and operation

A V-port ball valve uses a shaped opening to vary the effective flow area as the ball turns. Coupled with a pneumatic actuator and a suitable positioner, it provides a rotary control-valve arrangement. Control performance depends on the selected port, trim and operating conditions.

Configuration features

• Shaped V opening supports a defined change in flow area with rotation.
• Flanged construction connects the control assembly to the pipeline.
• A positioner coordinates the control signal with actuator position.

Selection and installation details

Valve diameter alone is insufficient for a control selection. Provide minimum, normal and maximum flow, inlet and outlet pressures, temperature and fluid properties. Request the flow coefficient and characteristic for the proposed trim and examine noise, cavitation or flashing where relevant. A V-port shape does not establish a universal rangeability, leakage class or shut-off rating; these belong to the selected valve documentation.

Review supply pressure at the equipment while it is operating, not only the compressor setting. Select accessories and the loss-of-air response for the complete assembly.
